Garret & Hurst Sculpture

Garret & Hurst Sculpture

Garret and Hurst specialise in both figurative and animalier sculpture in bronze and marble from the nineteenth century, particularly from the Romantic period from 1830 to 1910 with a focus on signed early casts.

More recently the business has expanded to include contemporary works of art and they currently represent the dutch sculptor Margot Homan (ARBS) and Domenica de Ferranti (ARBS), who is based in London.

Garret and Hurst was originally set up by Margaret Cowley and Wendy Grellman in the 1990s, and operated from premises in Brighton and a shop in Kent as general antique dealers. They were inspired by their maternal grandfathers, who were both involved in the business in the early part of the 20th century.

An increasing focus on their first love - sculpture - led them to participate at antique and fine art fairs as sculpture specialists. In 2003 Peter Cowley, Margaret's son, started working on the company website and later joined the business full time.

Margaret has served on board committees and the vetting committee for the Harrogate Antiques and Fine Art Fair. She currently serves as the sculpture vetter for the Antique Dealers' Fair Limited.
