J Collins & Son

J Collins & Son, a family-run business based in Bideford, Devon, has been trading in English furniture for four generations. Originally the firm had a shop in Harrow but it was the grandfather of the present proprietor, Jonathan Biggs, who moved the business to Bideford in 1953.

J Collins & Son's stock includes Georgian, Regency and Victorian furniture in mahogany and walnut, with some upholstered pieces including dining and arm chairs. The furniture is complemented by oil paintings and watercolours, which have also provided a major component of the company's stock for many years and are managed under J Collins & Son Fine Art, a subsidiary of the company, owned and managed by Jonathan's parents.

Jonathan Biggs took over the business from his parents, John and Pamela, in 2005 and oversaw the move to Charles Avenue, Bideford, in 2008. The new gallery is also home to a workshop which provides a full restoration service.

Jonathan has worked in the family business since leaving school and is a member of the West of England Antique Dealers' Association. J Collins & Son are regular exhibitors at the Shepton Mallet Fairs and also exhibit at the Westpoint Fairs, Exeter. The website is also regularly updated with new stock.
