James Brett Antiques & Works of Art

James Brett comes from a Norfolk family steeped in the antiques business. His family's roots in furniture date back five generations, as far as the early nineteenth century, with chair-maker John Brett, born in Norfolk in 1815. In 1870, John's son Jonathan T. Brett founded a company making and selling furniture with his six sons. One of them, Arthur, an antiques dealer, gradually expanded, setting up as Arthur Brett in the 1920s with elegant showrooms in St Giles Street, Norwich selling both antiques and reproduction items.

James represents the current antiques side of the family, his business occupying a large Georgian private residence in the centre of Norwich. He deals mostly in old English and Continental furniture as well as sculpture, metalwork and objects.

The items chosen by James demonstrate an eclectic and distinctive taste, whether it be in his pre-1720 early furniture, Georgian walnut bookcases, Spanish ebony cabinets or William and Mary lacquer pieces. He has exhibited at and served on the vetting committees of all of the major British antique fairs.

James Brett also runs a fully operational workshop, offering furniture restoration and polishing services.
