J. Otto Scherer Sohn
The J. Otto Scherer Sohn AG is one of the oldest antique watchmaking workshops in Switzerland. Over eighty years ago, Otto Scherer began repairing antique watches, and sixty years ago, his son Heinrich joined the business. Since then, they have been accumulating knowledge, refining their craftsmanship, and today, the J. Otto Scherer Sohn AG operates in the heart of Bern's Old Town. They specialize in selling antique pendulum and weight-driven clocks from earlier centuries, as well as pocket watches and mechanical vintage wristwatches. In their own restoration workshop, they revise both the watches intended for sale and customer watches of all kinds. They conduct appraisals and engage in the history of timekeeping. Heinrich Scherer is responsible for the watch collection at MUMM, the Museum of Watches and Mechanical Music Instruments in Oberhofen on Lake Thun. Additionally, he and his wife Ursula Bischof Scherer have authored two publications based on their research: Von Zyt zu Zyt, Berner Uhren im Lauf der Jahrhunderte (1992) and Mit der Zeit durch die Jahrhunderte – Sumiswald und seine Uhrmacher (2007).
